Monster Mash Countdown Blitz Day 4 - Birthright

Two months ago, Abigail Johnson saved the life of the boy she believes is her destiny and defeated an army of demons that have pursued her ancestors for centuries. Now, she and Kye should be taking their place as leaders of the new generation of Gifted. But the curse they thought was broken has returned, and every minute together brings them closer to death. When remaining shadow demons attack again, the Dragons send Abby to Mexico. Being apart from Kye is slowly killing her soul, and it turns out she isn’t any safer here than she was back home. The shadows have tracked her, the locals expect her to help with their own demon problems, and the more time she spends away from Kye, the more she doubts the destiny that ties them together. When the demons destroy her safe house, Abby has no choice but to take the fight to them. But the arrival of an old nemesis throws their careful plans into disarray, and Abby and her friends find themselves facing new adversaries in a battle that turns fatal. This time, not everyone will make it out alive.

Nichole Giles, the author of DESCENDANT, BIRTHRIGHT, and WATER SO DEEP, has lived in Nevada, Arizona, Utah, and Texas. She is a huge fan of all things paranormal and magical. Her dreams include owning a garden full of fairies, riding a unicorn, and taming the pet dragon she adopted at a recent local ComiCon. His name is Zane. She also loves to spend time with her husband and four children, travel to tropical and exotic destinations, drive in the rain with the convertible top down, and play music at full volume so she can sing along.

Q and A with Author

A lot of authors I have noticed have music as a way to help with their writing. Is this something that you have used as well? If not what are some things you have used?

It depends on the day. When I'm really struggling with a story, sometimes instrumental music that sets the tone of what I'm writing really does help. Same with when I'm writing a love scene. Sometimes love songs help things along. So yes. I do sometimes use music.

Is there a message you would like readers to get out of this book? What is it?

I don't generally try to put "messages" in my stories, but I do think every story has a theme. This one seems to be about finding your own strength and using your inner light to fuel it.

13 Random Facts about Nichole Giles

1.       I am the oldest of eleven children: two biological sisters, four biological brothers, and four step-brothers.
2.       I don’t like to read books that don’t involve some kind of romance, kissing scenes included.
3.       I must have lived during the regency period in a past life, because I love corset-style dresses and costumes. For Halloween, I’ll probably dress up, even though my kids won’t.
4.       My favorite ice cream flavor was discontinued over 10 years ago, but I still hold out hope that Ben and Jerry’s will bring back their Island Paradise flavor.
5.       My favorite food in the world is steamed snow crab.
6.       Whenever I struggle with creating or writing, I like to go for a drive with my convertible top down. I’ve even been known to do this with snow flurries in the air.
7.       Nichole’s ultimate dream house: on a white-sand beach, with lots of windows, palm trees in the yard, a huge patio, and within walking distance to a number of friends’ homes. Also near great shopping. It should also have a dedicated library where I can write.
8.       I have a growing collection of fairies. Statues, paintings, etc. And I’ve started picking up mermaids as well. I love to be surrounded by fantastical creatures.
9.       I have four kids. Two boys, two girls, all nearly grown.
10.   When I was in high school in Arizona, my friends and I haunted a local hangout, where I became highly proficient at playing air hockey.
11.   During my junior year, I had the opportunity to go to New York with my choir, where we sang in Carnegie Hall. We also toured the city, largely without supervision.
12.   My favorite candy includes Kookabura licorice and Black Forest gummies. All varieties of both.
13.   I have kissed a stingray, petted a shark, high-fived a sea otter, and hugged a dolphin, but I have never wrestled an alligator or tried to housebreak a lion—and I don’t think I ever will.

Monster Mash Countdown Blitz Day 3: Nacoma Knight

Flintlock is the second book in the Cutlass Trilogy. It continues Barren and his crew's story.

Barren Reed hopes to protect the Orient from his tyrant uncle, but his plans to make the King’s life a living hell aren’t supported by the Elders of the pirate community. As it stands, Barren has earned the Elders’ disdain for his carelessness, and they threaten him into exile if he makes one more mistake.

Barren’s not the only one feeling the Elders’ wrath—they don’t trust Larkin either. Worse, Barren can’t comprehend Larkin’s wish to have a relationship with her father, and the secrets she’s forced to keep create a tension that may pull them apart forever.

When the Pirates of Silver Crest begin to die, bullets laced with dark magic are to blame. With more and more of these weapons infiltrating the Underground, discovering who’s behind the dissemination is no easy feat. As fear and tension mount among the people of the Orient, Barren and his crew find themselves in a race against time to stop the spread of dark magic before the world of Mariana spirals into collapse.

Ashley was born and raised in Oklahoma, where the wind really does sweep down the plains, and horses and carriages aren't used as much as she'd like. When she's not writing (haha, like that EVER happens!), she's probably working out or pretending she's Sherlock Holmes. Her obsession with writing began after reading the Lord of the Rings in the eighth grade. Since then, she's loved everything Fantasy--resulting in an unhealthy obsession with the 'geek' tab on Pinterest, where all things awesome go.

Now for a fun look at Ashley's next coming up book:
Nacoma Knight (possibly soon to be Shadow Knight)

Here is a fun snippet to peak your interest.
I stare at the massive school from the passenger side of my mom’s small Ford Focus. The largest part of the building extends across the landscape, practically barring anyone from the woods behind it. A wide set of marble steps led to four rounded wooden doors marking entrances to the school. The main building has four levels—the very top has stained-glassed windows. At random intervals, angels and gargoyles look down upon all who enter, their dark eyes hollow and hooded.
There’s also a dead girl hanging from a rope above the four doors. I close my eyes tightly, but when I open them again, she’s still there.
She’s not really there, of course—only I can see her. It tells me that people have died at this school. It’s also a reminder that the problems my mother and I tried to escape in Chicago have followed me to good ol’ Oklahoma. Who would have thought?
“Would you like me to walk you to the door?” My mom asks, humored. I turn forward in my seat and look at her. She’s wearing a button up shirt and a pencil skirt. Luckily, she was able to find a job as a leasing agent pretty fast.
“No, mom, that’s all I need on my first day of school.”
She looks sympathetic. “Anora, honey, I know it’s not like your other schools, but this will be good for you.”
That was my queue to leave before she found out it probably wasn’t going to be good for me. I open the door and step out.
“Pick you up after school!” she calls and I close the door.
She drives off and it’s just me, the school, and the dead girl.
            I sigh. “Well, crap.”
Keep an eye out for it!

Find out what others are saying about the Campus Killer:

Author Andrew Hess captivated me from the moment I started reading this story. I loved how he moved between the heroine Ali Ryan’s point of view and the killers. Getting lost in both of their heads as they tried to outsmart one another was thrilling. This book is an absolute page turner as Ali Ryan chase after the killer. I could not help but gasp and hold my breath during a few of the scenes. ~Sarah Reads

I love reading different genres of books but very rarely do I read a good crime mystery, until now…. It reminded me of watching CSI or NCIS. It kept me on the edge of my seat and had me shouting at some of the scenes in the book. ~Linda Luscious Literature

Ends like a Hitchcock movie. Excellent plot and development of characters; mystery and suspense unpredictable and engaging. ~Dee Archer

I admit that I haven’t read a lot of crime thriller, but if they were all like this one, I think I’d read more. ~Toinette Thomas

Andrew Hess is a resident of Long Island New York. He debuted his first book, Chamber of souls, in 2011. The Chamber was a unique free verse poetry book that depicted the struggles of man as he falls into his own self wallowing journey while struggling to find himself. Hess followed this up with another book of poetry which showed a much darker side called; Hall of the Forgotten.
Hess has a love for mystery novels which was apparent by him taking a stab at a fictional government conspiracy series; The Phoenix Blade. This series has taken readers by storm by showcasing a group of vigilante 20 year olds that have been hired by the government to rid the country of people that have evaded justice. The Phoenix Blade currently has released the third installment of the series and was awarded Best Series of 2014 by Indie Author Books.
Despite living most of his life on Long Island, Andrew also spent five years living in the Ulster and Dutchess County areas and returns several times a year. His return trips have inspired him to create another intense series depicting a female detective named Ali Ryan called, Campus Killer.
Hess is an avid blogger at TheWritersRevolution13.blogspot.com where he promotes and interviews other authors as well as reviewing books of all genres. He has partnered up with several companies to help showcase authors from all over the world.
Hess is also a frequent guest on the Anthony Charles Podcast, a show dedicated to creative professionals as they give insight into their works and the lives they lead; guests have included authors, comedians, musicians, stuntmen, actors and producers.

Q and A With Author Andrew Hess

Q -  When did you know you wanted to write books?
A - I always had a fascination with writing, but didn't really give it serious thought until the 2004-2005 school year. I was in college and was taking a literary course. That's when the idea for my first novel took form and decided I wanted to be an author. The next semester I took a creative writing course and showed my professor some of my poetry and chapters for my books. He thought they were good but would need a lot of work. He saw potential in me, and that solidified my desire to become an author.
