Her mission: discover the identity of the fabled Shadow tech Goddess, a being who does not exist. All other considerations, including her possible death, are secondary.

The answer to Treasure Hunt Question #5 is in this video.

She pulled out a wondrous container sealed with a lid. She toyed with it, turning it over in her hands. She tried biting it, pulling on it with her teeth—nothing. Ah look, the container seemed to have a top similar to the device imprisoning the Autocon.
“That is a jar with a removable lid,” it said. She worked the lid until she managed to twist it off. She held the lid aloft in triumph—she had mastered its operation. Inside the ‘jar’ was a terrible-smelling substance. She got some of it on her fingers. It was cold and slippery. “What is this?” she asked with disgust, wiping her fingers clean.
“That is an alkaline surfactant of fatty acids scented with various perfumes and essential oils. It’s commonly known as ‘soap’.”
“The soap is vile-smelling,” she said.
“It’s meant to cleanse your filthy body. Had you not been such a knobby slag, had you the occasion to have been presented to a Warlord while in the Shade Church, you would have been thoroughly cleansed with a similar surfactant, minus the perfumes, of course.”

After some doing, she twisted the lid to the ‘soap’ back on, essentially reversing what she had done to get the lid off, proud of her mastery of twisting and untwisting things. “Then I shall keep it in trust for the gods and present it to them when they arrive.”   --Kat encountering a jar of soap for the first time.

Book Tour - Grace Without Grace

Grace has given up on romance, on almost everything, since Rick Fleming betrayed her faith in him five years ago. Given her constant struggle with bad luck (her friend Murphy), being insanely accident prone, and having been the target of endless ridicule growing up, she has no reason to trust anyone.
Rick made some mistakes as a boy, and as a young man, his worst was hurting Grace Evans. His heart still belongs to her, even if she doesn’t know it. Unfortunately, in the last confrontation between them, she demanded he never speak to her again.
Now, Grace’s best friend (and Rick’s sister) Hannah has invited her to a ten-day summer work-vacation to babysit Hannah’s teen cousins. A palatial cabin, a patio boat on the lake, and all the comforts of the rich and famous at their fingertips? A vacation made in heaven.
At least until they arrive and Grace finds Rick there. And neither can leave. Rick’s car is in pieces in the garage, and Grace forgot her driver’s license at home.
How will Grace survive it? Can she find a way to forgive? Can Rick learn to take
responsibility for his past mistakes? And even if they succeed, what will they do when Rick’s most recent wantabe girlfriend shows up on their doorstep, determined to make Rick hers?

Susan was born and raised a Southern California girl but is grateful to have lived on the Oregon coast and in the Rocky Mountains of northern Utah. She’s now enjoying living with her husband in the incomparable beauty of the Redwood forest, nestled against the rugged coast of Northern California.
Susan raised a tribe of children, making ends meet as a registered nurse and lactation consultant, and now her tribe members have tribes of their own and she doesn’t get to see enough of them. She loves to travel and is thrilled with a good movie or a great book, but writing is her passion. She writes almost anything, especially epic fantasy and romance.

Susan would love to hear your comments. Please review her book at your favorite retailer or at Goodreads. Take a peek at her website,, and/ or drop her a note at:

Author Interview:

In 10 words or less, how would you describe (Your Book/Series)?
A: It’s a contemporary, second-chance, sweet and clean romantic comedy.

Why do you love writing? When did you first have a love for writing, and how was it formed?
A: Words feel powerful to me. I’ve loved them for as long as I can remember. I started pretending to write stories when I was a child and wrote my first book when I was in fifth grade. It was awful, but I loved every minute of responding to the muse. For me, words convey messages, touch the heart, and open the mind to places and events where only the imagination can fly. I could be anything from a jockey to a doctor, a queen, or an astronaut soaring to faraway places in a spaceship. Both my parents and my teachers applauded my efforts, even if I wasn’t very confident, but I could hardly wait to get through the day’s homework so I could sit down and write.

Who are your favorite authors, and which ones have had an impact on you? Who has affected your writing style the most?
A: So many authors have influenced me, it’s hard to pick just a few. The classics writers like Betty Smith (A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, Joy in the Morning) had a strong affect. Although Gone with the Wind isn’t technically a romance novel, Margaret Mitchel wove the history into it so beautifully that I never felt it could be considered anything less than one of the most heart-breaking love stories of all time. I read lots of romances so old they went out of print, but later I drifted into historical romance and read everything Barbara Cartland and Georgette Heyer wrote. These days, I really enjoy clean, sweet romance authors: Cindy Rowland Anderson, Leanna Morgan, Jeanette Lewis, Heather Tullis, Donna K. Weaver, Lindzee Armstrong, Rachel Ann Nunes, Danyelle Ferguson, and way too many others to name. Every one of them has had an influence on my writing.

What are your favorite genres to read and write? What are your favorite books?
A: I read almost anything and everything, although fiction is my game. My favorite genres are romance (of any time period) and fantasy, although I’d love to try my hand at a either a suspense or a thriller.

What do you do when you’re not writing? Is writing a part-time or full-time job?
A: I write part-time only because I do the housekeeping, shopping and cooking for my 92-year-old father, which does keep me pretty busy. I also think it’s important to be involved in the community. I belong to a few groups, including my writing group, and my husband and I belong to the local American Fuchsia Club and are very active in church service. I grab time to write whenever I can, especially early in the morning, but when I’m not writing, I work in the garden, read, knit and crochet, read, am trying to get back into yoga because I really need some exercise, read, occasionally watch favorite shows and movies with my husband and sometimes my father, and I read.
