Valentine Blitz Day 10 - Broken Deeds, Broken Hearts

At the age of fifteen, Carly Sue McCluskie ran away from the family farm to escape her abusive great uncle Ezra and the torment of her classmates only to end up homeless on the streets of Salt Lake City. Eight years later, she reluctantly returns to oversee Ezra’s estate and is not surprised to learn someone killed the old codger. What she didn’t expect is someone attempting to kill her.

Seth Wakely and his family have been feuding with the McCluskies for a lifetime, but that doesn’t stop him from helping a neighbor in need. Seth is as surprised as a pig laying an egg when he learns someone in their little country town might have killed Ezra and now Carly Sue’s life is in danger.

Seth finds himself torn between protecting her and the bitter memories of the past, including what he did to Carly Sue. Good thing he can send his Border collie, Jewel, over to protect her.

Will their Hatfield and McCoy relationship continue, or will Carly Sue and Seth be able to conquer the anger which corrals them and, instead, learn to love?

Bestselling author, Cindy A Christiansen, has combined her love of dogs with her joy of writing to create an award winning combination. Her novels always include canine characters both in the pages and on the cover, an extension of the credit she gives to her extraordinary rescue dogs for their part in helping her overcome numerous challenges. In a reciprocal gesture for their love and devotion, a portion of the proceeds from her books are donated to assist abandoned and abused dogs.

She lives in Utah with her loving husband, two creative children with autism, and a pack of rambunctious dogs.

Fly into a good book!

Snippet:

Seth felt air swish toward his face as whoever threw another punch. This time, he ducked and dove toward the outline of the person. It didn’t take much to knock the person to the ground. And by the touch, it didn’t take long to realize it was Carly Sue…at least a woman, as he felt her soft damp skin and curves and smelled her musky, spicy, perfumed skin. She smelled of pure romance, and it caught him off guard. It certainly wasn’t anything he had ever smelled in this house before.

“Is that you, Carly Sue?” For good measure, and maybe a little pleasure, he continued to explore her curves in the dark.

“Do you mind?” She shoved him away. “And, don’t call me Carly Sue. It’s just Carly,” she said in an angry tone, struggling against him.

It was her all right.

She scrambled to her feet, a lock of moist hair slapping him in the face.

“What are you doing here this time?” she asked.

Book Review Walker Bride

Always the bridal consultant, never the bride. That was former bad girl gone business professional, Pearl Walker's life until she put her hands on Tyson Morgan while measuring him for a tux.
Tyson was happy being a miserable man, taking care of his family's land, and not involved with a woman. However, even he can't resist the pull of attraction to the beautiful, and off limits, Pearl?
The feud between the Walkers and the Morgans had torn apart friends and families for generations. What might happen when Pearl Walker and Tyson Morgan become business partners—and more?

Bernadette Marie has been an avid writer since the early age of 13, when she’d fill notebook after notebook with stories that she’d share with her friends. Her journey into novel writing started the summer before eighth grade when her father gave her an old typewriter. At all times of the day and night you would find her on the back porch penning her first work, which she would continue to write for the next 22 years.

In 2007 – after marriage, filling her chronic entrepreneurial needs, and having five children – Bernadette began to write seriously with the goal of being published. That year she wrote 12
books. In 2009 she was contracted for her first trilogy and the published author was born. In 2011 she (being the entrepreneur that she is) opened her own publishing house, 5 Prince
Publishing, and has released contemporary titles and has begun the process of taking on other authors in other genres.

Bernadette spends most of her free time driving her kids to their many events. She is also an accomplished martial artist, working her way to her second degree black belt in Tang Soo Do.
An avid reader she loves to meet readers who enjoy reading contemporary romances and
she always promises Happily Ever After.

5 stars out of  5
Walker Bride is a sweet, short and well written story. Though the story is centred on Pearl and Tyson you get insights into the families that surround them. It might be overwhelming trying to keep track of everyone if you didn’t start with the first book in the series. But everything is written so well that you can read this as a stand-alone as the story gives the necessary background for all the characters. The chemistry between Pearl and Tyson can get really hot but it never goes into too much detail. While I do not usually like contemporary romance I was able to enjoy this story. I would recommend this book for anyone who wants a well written hot romance. If you enjoy Family series this is a great book for you but I would definitely start with book #1 (Walker Pride).

Valentine Blitz Day 9 - Banished

When I was a kid I read a book a day, scribbled stories, and dreamed about having my very own book on the library shelf. I grew up in San Francisco, but now live in an adobe house on the banks of the Rio Grande with my husband and sons. I've stayed in the haunted tower room at Borthwick Castle in Scotland; sailed the Seine in Paris; ridden a camel in Petra; shopped the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul; and spent the night in an old Communist hotel in Bulgaria, and anything old and musty and ancient with a secret story to tell.

I'm the author of 10 award-winning middle-grade and Young Adult novels, I make way too many cookies when I'm writing - and I've got the best book trailers in the universe - for reals! www.kimberleygriffithslittle.com.

Awards: Southwest Book Award, Whitney Award for Best Youth Novel, Whitney Award Finalist and Association of Mormon Letters of Art Award, Bank Street College Best Books of 2011, 2013, and 2015, a Crystal Kite Finalist, and New Mexico/Arizona Book Award Winner. Three Top 10 Lists from BOOKLIST: Top 10 Romance, Top 10 Historical, Top 10 Religion/Spirituality for 2015.

Snippet Time!

With bare toes, I stepped along the spongy bank, making my way to a covert spot along the river. Quickly, I dropped my dress and entered the river.  After traveling for weeks on the desert, immersing myself was a luxury, the water dream-like against my bare skin.
The tamarisk trees rustled and a flash glittered beyond the trees. I scrambled up the bank and grabbed my dagger from its sheath, my breath raspy.
“Is someone there?” I called in a harsh whisper. My thighs were taut with nerves as I threw the dress back over my head just as Asher stepped out of the shadows. My stomach dropped sickeningly. “Have you been watching me?”
“No, my lady, no!” The young man strode forward to reassure me. “I was on watch and heard noises. I had no idea it was you. I apologize for intruding.”
Heat rose like wildfire from my toes to my damp chest, stomach queasy at the sight of him. “Do you speak the truth?”
The young man pressed a hand against his heart. “I do not lie. I had no idea you were out here. But when you walked up the bank you were the loveliest thing I’ve ever seen in my life.”
My mouth opened and I spluttered, “Get some sleep, Asher,” I said, making my voice brisk. “Before the camp rises.” I couldn’t get to my bed fast enough. When I lay down, my heart was still pounding.
Asher had denied it, but I knew he’d seen me rising naked out of the river.

And let's get to know the author better!

4. The best thing about writing is ... typing The End. Haha! While The End gives a huge sense of accomplishment, especially after months of hair-pulling angst, I love those moments when ideas suddenly come pouring into your mind like magic.
5.  When I am not writing, I like to ....besides reading, I’ve always loved to bake, since I was a kid. Cinnamon rolls, brownies, cookies—but mostly because I like to eat them!
6.  I am working on ... a Victorian-Era thriller with bits of paranormal and steam-punk.

Valentine Blitz Day 8 - Changes of the Heart

A coincidence is God’s way of staying anonymous.

Buying the 1920s farmhouse south of Phoenix, where the rumors of John Dillinger’s gang hid out in the 30s, is supposed to be Grace Evanheart’s way of escaping an old romance. When she finds an ancient diary with a map under the bedroom’s floorboard, the rumors solidify into fact. She doesn’t know who to trust with the news; Micah Stevens, the handsome deputy and the great grandson of the original landowners with whom she’s attracted, or Jerry, the young historian who seems too intent on learning about her new home?
Micah seems convinced their paths cross exactly at the right time and in the right place for them to fall in love. Now he just has to convince Grace of the same thing before suspicions of his real motive have her running again.

"Debra lives in Southwest Arizona, and has been married to Mike for 36 years. She's the mother of two awesome sons, who married their forever loves, and she's a grandmother to three beautiful grandchildren with one more on the way.

Debra wrote her first novella thirteen years ago just for grins. That brief taste into the world of an author started an undeniable writing obsession rivaling only her love of chocolate. She's an award-winning fine artist, and loves traveling with her husband."

Facts about the Author:
1.      When I am not writing, I like to .... do artwork and craft.
2.      I am working on ... the rough draft of Window of Darkness, book 3 in the Window of Time trilogy. Since it’s about a serial killer, this is my most difficult piece to date.

Snippet:

Micah leaned his hip against the cabinet, tucking his thumbs into his pockets. “Why don’t you have a boyfriend?”
Heat filled my face at his assumption. I opened the freezer compartment and looked inside. “What makes you think I don’t?” Two empty ice trays sat on a small shelf. I grabbed them so I could hide my embarrassment. I felt unworthy of love. Being dumped by David had been hard on my ego.
“It doesn’t really make sense because you’re so pretty, but if you’d had one, he would be here helping you instead of me.”
Even his compliment couldn’t cool the heat of the blush in my face. I twisted the cold-water faucet open, holding the tray beneath the stream, and listened to the clanking and groaning the pipes produced along with the water. “Why don’t I have a boyfriend? Huh, I guess you’d have to ask my ex-boyfriend that question. He . . . sort of . . .”
I took a deep breath, set the tray down in the sink and turned to look directly into Micah’s face. I hadn’t said it out loud since that night back in the apartment, when I’d poured my heart out to Chelsea, and I was curious to see Micah’s reaction. “He dumped me.” His brows went up marginally, and his eyes studied my face. He must have been looking for the hidden warts. “No, I don’t know why,” I said to his unasked question. “But it could possibly be because he didn’t want any deeper commitment than a girlfriend, and I was ready for more.”
I paced across the kitchen floor, the heels of my boots thudding like a hammer with every step. “We were together for two years, and suddenly he just wanted to be friends.” I turned and walked in the other direction. The kitchen wasn’t that big. “When a man says those words to a woman, the woman knows he doesn’t actually want to be friends.” I turned and marched back the other way. “We know what it means.”
“What does it mean?” Micah’s voice was quiet and gentle.

“That . . . that he never loved me.” I guessed at where the kitchen door was. I couldn’t see it through the stupid, self-pitying tears filling my eyes, blinding me. As I rushed outside I said, “I want to bring in the stove next.”
