Circle of Conspiracy

“Rienne, what am I going to do?” Sullyan’s voice was hoarse with emotion. “Elias has declared war on Andaryon. I couldn’t stop him—he wouldn’t listen. As if that wasn’t bad enough, he has commanded me to tell him everything I know about the Citadel’s defenses and Anjer’s battle strategies. How can I possibly obey him?”

Rienne gasped. “He asked you to do that? Doesn’t he realize what he’s doing? There’s no way on earth Timar’s involved in Prince Eadan’s abduction.”

“I know, Rienne, I know. I have told Elias so, but he does not wish to hear me. He is full of fury and avid for revenge and the need to do something to regain his son. I cannot blame him for that. But war! It will achieve nothing but death and the destruction of the alliance. This could put us back decades and resurrect all the old grievances still simmering beneath the surface. Which is exactly what our enemy wants, of course.”

Rienne stared at Sullyan, totally overwhelmed. Events were moving too fast for her. “What will you do? What can you do?”

“I have no idea. I need time to think. But I simply cannot use my knowledge to help Elias attack Timar.”

Top Ten List 

1) Anthing to do with animals, especially dogs and horses. My favorite horse breed is the Friesian, which is why I put one in my novels. I also own two rescue dogs and support many animal charities.

2) Singing, especially folk-style songs. I also sing in my local church choir.

3) Chocolate!!

4) Dragons and (I have to admit!) unicorns. I have collected figurines and statues of dragons and unicorns since I was small and have a vast collection, some of which live outdoors. But I don’t like “twee”, only ones that look like they could be real.

5) Reading, especially fantasy and sci-fi.

6) Country walks.

7)All wildlife, especially butterflies. I used to breed and release UK varieties, and belong to the Butterfly Conservation Society.

8) Did I mention chocolate?

9) Spending time with family members.

10) Playing my bodhran (Irish drum). I can’t read music so decided to take up drumming instead! It’s fun and very theraputic.

Raymond Hegsted was Born in Juneau, Alaska and raised by a truck driving Dad. Joined the Army on voluntary draft and served with 4^th infantry Regimental Intelligence and Reconnaissance reaching the rank of corporal.

He spent time living and working in Italy where he also got the chance to travel to many other European countries. After returning to America he helped develop a computerized scheduling system for the Oklahoma Scheduling Department.

After ten years of marriage ended in divorce he was sent to Ohio to head up corporate scheduling. Here he married second wife, Dr. Glena Louise Hegstad (A Montessori teacher). He then took early retirement, started and managed 5 different Montessori Daycare Schools (three of them in Flagstaff, Arizona under the name of The GlenMar Corporation).

Raymond wrote his first book at the age of sixty-one.  His wife got her Doctorate in education and he wrote books. He love writing! One of the reasons he decided to write was "I got tired of seeing ever one else on TV; I was vicariously living their life and not my own. Everyone had a story...share yours." He and his wife and have enjoyed many years with their four+one children…one child adopted them. They have been happily married for many years.

This book is about 2 friends and their adventure in the Alaskan Wilderness. The wild animals and illness are not the only perils they face. Someone is trying to kill them! 

This book was a really enjoyable read, there is adventure, action, and heart pumping terror! The twists, particularly at the end, were almost completely unexpected. The characters were easy to relate to and the story flowed fairly well.  

The things I struggled with; The beginning, while well written, was a bit slow. There were a few details that while interesting did not play into the plot well and took you away from the flow of the story.  The second thing is that the end had a few spots that threw me off, not knowing that I was now reading about someone else in a diffrent location. For the most part, this wasn't a problem so it might have just been my text to speech app jumping around and missing a transition sentence. 

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a good adventure! I really enjoyed it even though I was a bit apprehensive when I first received the ARC. Warnings: There is violence, particularly at the end, and some mild swearing. There is an attraction between the male and female characters but no sex nor anything sexual that needs a warning.

Q&A With the Author: 

Tell us about things you enjoy — what you do for fun or personal satisfaction besides writing?

Besides spending time with my family, I love to read. I like to do the Goodreads Reading Challenge. Last year I read 165 books. Now, most of those were audiobooks because I don't have time to sit and read. Another thing I love to do is play League of Legends, an online video game. It's so fun to play with my family members.

When did you first realize you were an author?

This may be arbitrary, but I'd classify being a writer as someone who writes. I became an author when I became published. So with that definition, I became an author in June 2013.

Have you done anything writing-related, but besides actually writing your books, that seemed to get a lot of positive response? Something that encouraged you?

I write a mean set of city council minutes. I did that for over twenty years.

What is the thing you struggle with the most while writing? And how do you defeat it?

I guess distractions are the biggest conflict. I can be writing along, and I need to open my browser for research. *squirrel* When I'm really struggling, I have software called Anti-social that helps. I turn it on and it keeps me from opening social media.

What is the “message” of your writing? (For example, is your purpose to encourage old-fashioned values, encourage romance, or do you have different purposes in different books?)

Probably the biggest theme I hear reviewers comment on the "family." Frequently, it's about people who create their own "families" from friends.

Are your characters/stories/scenes, etc. based on anything in real life?

I draw a lot on my own experiences or those of people I know or have read about. It's a lot of taking an experience and asking a bunch of "what if" questions. I don't tend to write about real people, but I've had a couple of characters that were inspired by real people. More that they were fodder for "what if" questions.

What are your future projects?

This is going to be a busy year for me.

* I have another book in my Billionaires of REKD series coming out on St. Patrick's Day. It's called The Luck of the Billionaire, and it includes a trip to Ireland. Appropriate, right? There will be another two of them that will come out by the fall. 

* The next Twickenham Time Travel romance--For the Magic--will come out in the summer. 

* I have a romance that's a follow-up to my Christmas novella that should come out later this year. 

*This fall I'll begin releasing a new western novella series set in Wyoming in 1905.

  

* I'm also working on a young adult/new adult portal fantasy I'm excited about.

Hmmm . . . looking at all that I think I may need to clone myself.
